Ashin Saraṇa’s career in his field of Buddhist philosophy and meditation starts with enthusiastic meditation at special meditation retreats conducted by meditation masters from the Czech Republic and Myanmar in the Czech Republic already in 2005. Since then Ashin Saraṇa studied Buddhism from books, websites, and professional teachers.
To study more, in December 2007 he traveled to Sri Lanka and became a student of the great master, venerable Pemasiri. Under his guidance, he became a novice, named Czech Saraṇa Himi. As a novice, starting in January 2009, he attended the Buddhist and Pali University in Sri Lanka, where he earned his Bachelors’s Degree in Buddhist Philosophy, Pali Language, and Religious Studies. He was awarded as the most ardent and knowledgeable student in his class.
Ashin Saraṇa then left Sri Lanka in May 2012 to Myanmar, where he received the higher (bhikkhu) ordination with the name Ashin Saraṇa, and spent five continuous years in intensive meditation and study of the Buddhist scriptures. After his five years of training, Ashin Saraṇa was encouraged by his scriptures teacher as well as his meditation teacher to share his knowledge and experience with people from all over the world.
Ashin Saraṇa then set up a meditation center in Myanmar and taught dozens of visiting meditators, some of who stayed with Ashin Saraṇa and followed his guidance for months or more in his meditation center. Since about 2015 Ashin Saraṇa has also been active on Facebook, sharing his knowledge and experience to his ever-growing audience, now counting to over a hundred thousand followers. Since about 2017 Ashin Saraṇa has also been publishing a newsletter, where he shares his numerous essays, answers to deep philosophical questions, translations from Pali and Burmese languages, and information on Myanmar and Myanmar Buddhism that has never been available in English.
Since 2020 Ashin Saraṇa has been actively teaching Basic Buddhism, ethics, and love to children and adults in numerous online classes, conducting a class also for preschool children. Ashin Saraṇa’s enthusiasm to improve his teaching abilities led him to study also modern scientific knowledge and psychology, thus earning a certificate for Early Childhood Care and Education (from Asian College of Teachers in 2021), various certificates for courses in humanitarian help (from disasterready.org starting in January 2018), and at present applying for Master’s degree program of Clinical Mental Health Counseling in the Liberty University of Virginia, USA.
2008-2011 BA degree from the Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka, then five years (2012-2017) training meditation and memorizing scriptures under Myanmar meditation masters,
2012-2017 training in Shwe Oo Min Tawya meditation center, Myanmar, in both meditation and scriptural studies
2017-2021 a meditation teacher in two meditation centers in Myanmar for four years, teaching both Burmese and non-Burmese alike,
2019-2021 represents Buddhism in inter-religious meetings (conducted by the South-Korean peace organization HWPL) where he provides cites the Buddhist scriptures to answer various religious questions that are asked from panelists representative of various religions, with the intention to support mutual understanding and respect between religious people of the world.
2012-2020 apart from reading own papers on interfaith and Buddhist conferences in Myanmar, (before Covid) visiting countries of the world, such as Australia (2017), Europe (2017), Vietnam 2018), Thailand (2018), Singapore (2012, 2018, 2019), and the USA (2020) to teach meditation in meditation retreats,
2020-2021 teaching meditation and Buddhist philosophy in English to children & adults of all ages through several online classes
2021 August – December, Ashin Saraṇa left Myanmar to the Czech Republic where he continues teaching meditation live for Burmese audience every day in an online Facebook group and conducts several online classes of Buddhist philosophy for US children of pre-teen and teen age. Furthermore, Ashin Saraṇa teaches live meditation in Czech and English in another online Facebook group and accepts various invitations for Dhamma talks, meditation-teaching sessions, and other events where he shares his knowledge and experience with the Buddha’s Teachings.
